Buyer protection

Why buy from a franchised dealer?

Not every “dealer” is the same. Here is how a franchised NOADA member compares to an independent lot or a private sale — on the things that protect your money.

Recommended

Franchised NOADA member

  • Factory-authorized & franchised
  • Manufacturer warranty & recall work
  • Bound by NOADA’s Code of Ethics
  • Licensed, bonded & titled properly
  • Consumer mediation available

For comparison

Independent used lot

  • Not factory-authorized
  • Limited or no factory warranty work
  • No NOADA Code of Ethics
  • State-licensed dealer
  • No association mediation

For comparison

Private sale

  • No dealer accountability
  • Usually sold “as-is,” no warranty
  • No Code of Ethics
  • You handle title & paperwork
  • No recourse if there’s a problem

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What is NOADA?

The Northeast Ohio Automobile Dealers Association, a nonprofit trade association founded in 1927 that represents the region’s franchised new-vehicle dealers in Akron and the surrounding counties.

What does “member in good standing” mean for me as a buyer?

It means the dealership is a current NOADA member that has agreed to our Code of Ethics — a franchised, factory-authorized store you can hold accountable, with consumer mediation available if a dispute arises.

Is NOADA the same as the Akron BMV?

No. NOADA is the trade association; it also operates the Akron BMV (Ohio Deputy Registrar Agency 7731) as a separate public-facing service with its own website, AkronBMV.com, and its own phone line.

How do I resolve a problem with a dealer?

Start by contacting the dealership directly. If you can’t reach a resolution with a NOADA member, you can request consumer mediation through NOADA to help work toward a fair outcome.

Where is NOADA located?

688 Wolf Ledges Parkway, Akron, Ohio 44311.
